In cooperation with the TUM Chair of Soil Science, we hosted the AI4Soil workshop as part of the project SoilCarbonHack from 22nd to 23rd September at the TUM campus in Ottobrunn. More than 25 experts and early-career scientists from soil science and computer science came together to exchange, discuss, and advance the use of AI in soil science. The workshop featured the following keynote presentations:
- Johannes Lehmann: “Opportunities and pitfalls of AI in soil science”
- Nafiseh Kakhani: “Smarter Soil Maps with Deep Learning”
- Felix Bauer: “AI to analyze root-soil interactions”
- Wejdene Mansour: “How AI Detects Patterns in Land, Sea and Soil”
Additionally, interactive group discussion sessions designed to facilitate the exchange of participants’ expertise in AI applications within soil science provided valuable insights and advanced the integration of artificial intelligence in soil research. We want to thank the speakers and all participants for the exchange and the inspiring insights.
